Welcome to my colourful world. I'm Karlena, a contemporary visual artist based in Greymouth on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. I believe life is too short for boring art which is why I paint in a vibrant, expressive style and refuse to be limited to one subject.
Dance with Intuition
I work with mixed media and watercolour in an intuitive flow. Often beginning without a strict plan, I allow the magic to happen directly on the canvas, embracing vibrant, watery flows and happy surprises. This makes every original painting a unique discovery from start to finish.
This love of discovery is why my subjects are so diverse. I am known for my iconic pop art portraits, such as my vibrant Marilyn Monroe series, alongside playful animal portraits and bold floral paintings. My work is a celebration of colour and energy, designed to infuse your space with joy and life.
My work is held in private collections worldwide and has been featured in galleries, cafes, and boutiques across New Zealand. I also connect with a vibrant global audience through a significant online presence, sharing my artistic process and building a community with fellow art lovers.
